Jordan Koch and Dominique Frink own a small family farm located in Windsor, Massachusetts. We started our farm in 2016 with four chickens and later a few rabbits. In 2018 we took a huge step and purchased three baby Nubian goats from Mountain Girl Farm in Adams. Our land was a fairly dense wooded area which we were using the goats to clear. We then realized how much we absolutely loved having all of these animals and we decided we needed to get more. So then we got more chickens and some ducks and even a pair of sheep. We then progressed to getting a couple of pigs.
Shorty after we started our farm Dominique started baking artisan breads for farmers markets, small shops, and the local community. These breads quickly grew in popularity and she soon became known around town as “the bread lady”.
We never actually intended to have a farm when we started out in 2016. We slowly grew and grew until one day we were standing outside looking at everything we have built and realized we actually had built a farm. Our love for our animals then inspired us to significantly expand into something we would of never imagined. Neither one of us comes from a farming background so every step we’ve taken to expand our farm has been an amazing learning experience.
The animals we have live on the land, and provide a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to land management. After the goats eat all the greenery off the trees and then knock the small trees down, the pigs the root up all the stumps, rocks, roots, and any unwanted material in the dirt. The dirt is then tilled and ready to be turned into pasture land.
The quality of food is very important to us. We strive to provide the highest quality food possible. All of our products use the highest grade organic and local ingredients when available. Additionally, we do not use any conventional fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, or other chemicals while growing our produce. We make our own compost and use natural methods to deter pests.
We humanely raise all of our animals. They are given lots of love and space to run and play in the woods and pasture. The most important thing to us is to treat our animals with love and respect. Although our animals are are all grass fed we do give the pregnant and nursing mamas a small amount of grain. Our grain is all certified organic and we buy it right from the grain mill and then mix it ourselves.
